TERMS AND CONDITIONS

This document contains a summary of some of the Rental Conditions. For full detailed Conditions refer to the Rental Agreement on pick-up or at www.britz.com. Please note all prices quoted in this document are in New Zealand dollars. Rates and Conditions quoted in our brochures and/or documentation are subject to change without notice.

RENTAL DURATION

  • Minimum rental period is 5 days. Minimum rental period 10 days for hires between 23 December 2006 and 10 January 2007. Minimum rental period is subject to change during peak periods.
  • Rental days are calculated on a calendar day basis. When calculating the number of days a vehicle is rented, the day of pick-up is counted as day one of the rental, regardless of pick-up time. The day of the vehicle's return is counted as the final day of the rental.
  • When a rental moves from one rate season into the next, the calculation is based on both rates.
  • Special rates are available for rentals of more than 90 days. Discounts available on application only.
  • Late Pick-up or early return of vehicle, does not entitle the hirer to any refund of the unused portion of the rental.
  • Late returns will be charged on a per day basis. Failure to obtain authorisation for a rental extension will result in a daily fee of NZ$150 in addition to the daily rate.

ONE-WAY RENTALS

  • One-way rentals are available between all branch locations.
  • A one-way rental fee of NZ$220 is charged for rentals between the North and South Island, where pick-up is between 01 November 2006 and 31 March 2007.

MULTIPLE RENTALS

Should a customer have more than one rental, they can be combined to qualify for longer term hire discounts. Campervan and car rentals in Australia, New Zealand and South Africa, for both Britz and Maui, can be combined to qualify if travel is completed within a 3 month period.

For campervans that pick up and drop off on the same day, the less expensive rental day will be free of charge. This also applies to the Excess Reduction option taken, if applicable.

If multiple hires are within the same country and total days exceed 50 days only the maximum charge applicable to excess reduction or the Britz Bonus Pack will apply. Contact reservations for more information.

The one-way fee (if applicable) and charges for additional products and services (refer to page 2) will be charged per vehicle rented.

CHANGE OF DROP-OFF DESTINATION

If the customer wishes to change the drop-off destination after the rental has commenced, they must first obtain authorisation from Reservations. Subject to the change being approved, an additional charge of up to NZ$500 will apply.

RENTAL EXTENSION

If the hirer wishes to extend the rental whilst on hire, they must first obtain authorisation from Reservations. This is subject to availability. The extra cost of an extended rental must be paid by credit card over the telephone on confirmation of the rental extension.

Failure to obtain authorisation will result in a daily fee of NZ$150 in addition to the daily rate.

Diesel Tax Recovery Fee

The Diesel Tax Recovery fee will be calculated and collected on return of your vehicle based on the kilometres travelled during your hire.

The vehicle rates per 100km are as follows:

  • 2-Berth: Nil
  • 2-Berth: Toilet/Shower: NZ$3.30 (was NZ$3.20)
  • 4-Berth: NZ$3.50 (was NZ$3.40)
  • 6-Berth: NZ$3.70
  • Rates are subject to Government changes.

TRANSFERS

Britz provides free airport to branch and branch to airport transfer on day of arrival and departure for our Auckland and Christchurch Branches. Queenstown branch is located at the airport. The Wellington agency is located 40 minutes from the airport and clients must find their own transportation to and from the branch, at their own expense.

FOR YOUR PROTECTION

New Zealand legislation provides limited coverage for personal injury. We strongly recommend that all people travelling in New Zealand take out Personal Travel Insurance.

All vehicles are insured for the damage to the vehicle or to the property of a Third Party. The hirer is responsible for the first NZ$5,000 ("the excess") of the cost of damage to Third Party property or to the rented vehicle, including single vehicle accident, windscreen and tyre damage, towing and recovery costs, theft, fire, break-in or vandalism. This also includes the cost of the daily rental for the period the vehicle is off fleet for accident repairs (demurrage). The excess applies in respect of each claim, not rental.

  • The excess is applicable regardless of who is at fault and must be paid at the time the accident report is completed, not at the completion of the rental. The excess will be refunded if we are successful in recovering the cost of the damages from the Third Party. Please note that Third Party Claims can take months to resolve.
  • Please see the 'Exclusions' section below, whereby all Excess Reduction cover will be made void.

This NZ$5,000 excess can be reduced, in most circumstances, by the purchase of Excess Reduction Option 1 or Excess Reduction Option 2.

Excess Reduction Option 1

With Excess Reduction Options the customer is responsible for the excess for ANY ACCIDENT COST of damage to Third Party property or to the rented vehicle, including single vehicle accident, towing and recovery costs, theft, fire, break-in or vandalism. This also includes the cost of the daily rental rate for the period the vehicle is off fleet for accident repairs (demurrage). The excess applies in respect of each claim, not rental.

Premium Cover Option (PCO)

Where PCO is taken out at a flat rate of NZ$40 per rental in addition to Excess Reduction Option 2, the customer will not have to pay any excess at all for any damage to the vehicle or property of a Third Party.

BRITZ STRONGLY RECOMMENDS OUR CUSTOMERS TAKE EXCESS REDUCTION OPTION 2 AND PREMIUM COVER OPTION FOR TRAVEL WITH COMPLETE PEACE OF MIND.

EXCLUSIONS:

Standard Excess, Excess Reduction Option 1 & 2 and PCO do not cover:

  • Any water related damage, which includes but is not limited to:
    1. any vehicle submersion
    2. creek or river crossing
    3. driving through low plain flooded areas
    4. beach driving
  • Personal belongings: we recommend the hirer does not leave valuables in the vehicle and that they take out personal insurance.
  • Any damage caused by willful misconduct (e.g. sitting or standing on the bonnet or roof of the vehicle) and driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
  • The incorrect use of fuel (fuel being diesel or petrol). The hirer will be responsible for any associated cost.
  • The cost to retrieve or recover a vehicle which has become bogged.
  • The cost to replace keys which have become lost, or retrieval of keys which have been locked in a vehicle.
  • Overhead and underbody damage to the vehicle.

VEHICLE SECURITY DEPOSIT

On pick-up of the vehicle, a Vehicle Security Deposit is payable. The amount is determined by the Protection Package selected (refer to the "FOR YOUR PROTECTION" section). If you do not take Excess Reduction Option 1 or Excess Reduction Option 2, the Security Deposit is NZ$5,000 payable by cash, Traveller's Cheques, or credit cards. Should the Deposit be paid by credit card, the amount will be debited to the hirer's account immediately.

If Excess Reduction Option 1 has been taken the Security Deposit is NZ$1,500 payable by cash, Traveller's Cheques or credit card. If paid by credit card, an imprint of the renter's card will be taken and authorization may be gained.

If Excess Reduction Option 2 has been taken the Security Deposit is NZ$220 payable by cash, Traveller's Cheques or credit card. If paid by credit card, an imprint of the renter's card will be taken and authorization may be gained.

In the instance of Excess Reduction Option 1 and Excess Reduction Option 2, the credit card voucher will be returned to the hirer.

Stringent 'cash qualification' conditions apply to any security deposit that may be paid by cash. For security purposes, Britz recommends the use of credit cards.

The Security Deposit is fully refundable provided the vehicle is returned on time, to the correct location, undamaged, with a clean interior and with full fuel tanks (fuel being petrol, diesel and LPG gas). Except where the customer has purchased PGO and or PFO, failure to return the vehicle with full petrol, diesel and /or LPG gas tanks will result in refill charges, which will be advised upon return of the vehicle.

We reserve the right to retain a NZ$125 soiling fee if the vehicle is not returned with the interior in a clean condition. The toilet and wastewater tank (if applicable) must be emptied prior to the return of the vehicle, or an additional NZ$125 soiling fee will be retained.

EXCHANGE RATE / CURRENCY VARIATIONS

All credit card transactions are conducted in New Zealand dollars. Due to exchange rate fluctuations and bank fees there could be some variance in the amount refunded compared to the amount initially charged. Britz does not accept any liability for variances up or down.

CREDIT CARDS

If a credit card is presented as payment, the credit card holder will be jointly and severally liable as a customer. Accepted credit cards are Visa Card and Mastercard (2% surcharge applies for American Express).

INFRINGEMENTS

We reserve the right to charge the hirer for any speeding or parking fines, associated administration costs and/or accidents including Third Party property damage not reported on return of the vehicle. The administration fee per fine will be NZ$60.

LICENCE

A full resident country driver's licence, is to be presented at the time of rental. If the licence is not in English format, an international drivers licence is also required.

AGE restrictions

Drivers must be 21 years of age or over. For drivers over the age of 75, a medical certificate stating that the customer is fit to drive for the duration of the hire is required.

KITCHEN KIT & PERSONAL KIT

One Kitchen Equipment (tea towel, crockery, cutlery, cooking utensils) and Personal Kit (towels and bedding) is included for the number of clients traveller in the daily rental rate at no extra cost.

ROAD RESTRICTIONS

Campervans can only be driven on sealed/bitumen or well-maintained roads. No vehicle shall be driven on Skippers Road (Queenstown), Ninety Mile Beach (Northland), Ball Hut Road ( Mt. Cook) and North of Colville Township ( Coromandel Peninsula), and Tapu-Coroglen Road ( Coromandel Peninsula).

Britz reserves the right at its sole discretion to restrict vehicle movements in certain areas due to adverse road or weather conditions.

CUSTOMER CARE on-road assistance

Any problems associated with the vehicle, including equipment failure, must be reported to Britz as soon as possible, and within 24 hours in order to give Britz the opportunity to rectify the problem during the rental. Failure to do so will compromise any claims for compensation. We do not accept liability for any claims submitted after this period.

REPAIRS

Repairs up to NZ$100 may be affected without authorisation and will be reimbursed. For amounts over NZ$100, Britz will need to be informed in advance. Repairs will be approved provided the customer was not directly responsible for the damage. Receipts must be submitted for any repair or the claim will not be paid.

CHANGE OF VEHICLE

Should the vehicle booked be unavailable through unforeseen circumstances, Britz reserves the right to substitute an alternative vehicle without prior notification and at no extra cost. This shall not constitute a breach of contract and does not entitle the hirer to a refund.

VEHICLE CATEGORY

Vehicles cannot be requested by make or model, only by vehicle category.

VOLUNTARY DOWNGRADE

Should the hirer decide to take a lesser vehicle than booked they will not be entitled to any refund.

CANCELLATION FEE

The cancellation fees are:

  • If cancelled on the day of pick up or No-Show 100% of Nett Rental
  • If vehicle is returned early for any reason whatsoever No refund available

IMPORTANT

Britz reserves the right to refuse any rental at its discretion.

ANIMALS

No animals are permitted in our vehicles, excluding guide dogs.

PERSONAL AND COMPANY CHEQUES

Personal and Company cheques will not be accepted as payment for rentals at the time of pick-up. These must be received by Britz 14 days prior to commencement of rentals. Personal or Company cheques are not acceptable as the vehicle security deposit.

Illustrations and text in any of our brochures or website are a representation only of the vehicle depicted. Variances in the vehicles offered for rental may occur due to substitutions made by Britz or modifications and/or upgrades to the vehicle design made by the manufacturer.

  • Auckland , Wellington and Christchurch: Daily from 0800 to 1730hrs, closed Christmas Day.
  • Queenstown: Daily from 0800 to 1730hrs in the summer months, daily from 0800 to 1730hrs in the winter months, closed Christmas Day.

Pick-up and/or drop-offs in Queenstown and Wellington incur a NZ$100 fee (for same city pick-up & drop-off, one fee applies).

Pick-up and drop-off after branch hours may be available by prior arrangement. NZ$100 fee applies.

NOTE

Terms and Conditions and Rates are governed by the complete "Rental Agreement" as provided at time of check-out.

You collect your tickets on pick-up and pay for the ferry at the branch. It is essential to pre-book ferries in the New Zealand summer months between November and March. We will reconfirm to you the actual sailing time when it is confirmed to us.

The approximate time to cross by the Interislander Ferry is 3 hours and the Lynx Fast Ferry is 2 hours & 15 minutes.
